Private Practice
Posted 5th Nov 09 By Catherine Porter
Where can I find info. on starting my own Private Practice for LC? I need ALL the info that would relate to CA, USA. I knew that this would be a great place to start. I am looking to do consultations in the mom's home. Do I still need to get insurance?
I am also wanting to write a letter of introduction and me and my services to our local Ped's and OB's. I admit it. I don't write will and would love any suggestions.

Hi Cathy,
Linda Smith has written a very good book called The Lactation Consultant in Private Practice, The ABCs of Getting Started, which would be very helpful to you in answering a number of questions about starting a practice. Whether you see mothers in their homes or in another setting, you should definitely carry insurance. If you are a member of ILCA, you can get insurance at a very good group rate. If you are not a member of LACTNET that also would be a good resource for you, as there are members who are in private practice in California on that listserv.
