Course Aim:

The aim of this course is to give you an understanding of how infant feeding choice is influenced by attitudes of individuals and communities, and how these are in turn molded by industry and politics for financial gain at the expense of the mother and baby. Global, national and local initiatives to support, promote and protect breastfeeding are discussed.

Learning Objectives:

On successful completion of this course the student will be able to

  • Relate a brief history of infant formulae
  • Evaluate the influence of formula promotion
  • Access the WHO Code and the Innocenti Declaration and be able to apply the regulations to clinical situations.
  • Describe the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and list the "The Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding".
  • Identify and evaluate your own community attitudes to breastfeeding

BE10 The Politics of Breastfeeding is facilitated by an experienced International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
There is a forum where topical issues may be raised, case studies discussed, questions posed and answered, links to additional information provided, etc.
The course is available as a one month subscription commencing on the day of notification to you of your username and password.
On successful completion your Certificate will be available to you in pdf format to be downloaded from the course website.
