Lecture Details: The Protocols for Induced Lactation: A Guide for Maximizing Breastmilk Production has been available to the public since 2002, and subsequently published in several lactation texts. Over 2000 women have followed these protocols to induce lactation (without pregnancy) for their babies born via adoption or surrogacy. Yet, a formal study has not been published, because one of the authors (Lenore Goldfarb) has been pursuing her Ph.D. At this point, both authors believe it is imperative that they present their work such as it is, so that health professionals may have the opportunity to pose questions and have clarifications provided. The presentation will include a brief history of the development of the protocols for induced lactation, the biology of induced lactation, the protocols themselves (Regular, Accelerated, and Menopause), the medications / galactogogues employed, a recipe for increasing breastmilk supply, the role of the lactation consultant, the importance of medical supervision, and a brief summary of the results that have been achieved by women who have followed these protocols so far.
